So I can't say this was the most difficult move Will and I have ever had, but it certainly wasn't the easiest. When we moved to GA for Will's new job, his company sprung for movers...And it was awesome.
After being in a college town for so long and having moved so many times during our first year of marriage and helping other people move, it was so nice to have movers come, pack everything up for us, and move everything for us. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to save up for movers this time around. Our realtor recommended some movers to us and since they were a good deal we went with them!
And then Moving day came...and our movers moved like snails. It was terrible, especially since they were paid by the hour. We had paid for three hours and towards the end of that three hours, they had only loaded about half of our apartment onto the truck (so much slower than the previous guys who were paid by the job). Will told them to stop loading and to take the truck as it was to the new house. When they got to the house they were still being slow, so we got to the point where we were just telling them to just put the boxes down and get more...forget about what room they go in, we didn't budget to pay them 8 hours of overtime!!!! Thankfully we lit enough of a fire under them that we managed to get out only paying one hour of overtime. I definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone!
So anyway, with half of our stuff at the apartment still and no additional money budgeted for a truck, we spent the next couple of weeks making a dozen or more trips back and forth moving stuff. I never realize how much stuff we have until we move!
Thankfully the Neveils came over one of the last weekends in the apt and helped us pack the last odds and ends and take an additional couple of trips. They really saved us some time in that last stretch!
However, in the new house everything was a mess and in the wrong room. The closets in the house were also gutted so we didn't have shelves or anything to put stuff away on. Our base group was really sweet and came and Bowdie build half of our master closet, Jonathan and Kevin moved boxes to appropriate rooms, and the ladies organized the kitchen for me (huge weight off of my shoulders!).
Another unfortunate thing about our movers is that they broke our washer. And then we very quickly found out that our master toilet leaked really badly (it wasn't spotted as an active leak in our inspection because no one lived in the house for two years). We also needed to build the shelves in our pantry and the rest of our master closet, as well as all of the other closets in our house. We also have a LOT of painting to do. Our garbage disposal doesn't work, the dishwasher is missing parts and the oven doesn't have any racks (and its actually really difficult to find oven racks). We also still have not unpacked because of all of the other projects holding us up. So we've been pretty busy with a lot of projects. We try to surface from them occasionally but for the time being its been consuming most of our time outside of work. And yet, we are still enjoying our new home!
I will keep posting updates, but no promises on how soon I get to them!
