Valentine’s Day Party

_ For Valentine’s day, our cp group decided to hold a dinner for the widows at crosspoint.  It was so much fun getting to know 2 great godly women within our congregation.  They were sweet in joining us for dinner and sharing their lives with us.

I was honored because Kelly asked Amber and I to decorate for the party.  We went with a black, white, and pink theme, because I had a lot of black and white stuff from our wedding and Amber had a lot of pink stuff from a bridal shower (yay for not having to buy decorations) so we just made the printables to match.   Amber made some awesome invitations (wish I had a picture of them).  I made the food labels, napkin holders, and circle tags which you can download at the end of this post if you would like.

For food we had everyone bring a side and dessert and the couple whose house we were at provided a ham.  I volunteered to bring a dessert because I’m always looking for an excuse to make something sweet.  For this I made the pioneer woman’s sugar cookies which are a wonderfully crisp melt-in-your-mouth kind of cookie.  This is not moldable cookie dough so to get the cookie shape I made a thin bar in a casserole pan, and cut the cookie shape after they came out.

I then decorated them with melted chocolate…I was going to decorate them with white chocolate as well but it never melted…it was kind of creepy.

_So yummy!  Though I wish my hand was steadier...

For decorations I also decided to make these abstract string centerpieces.  It works like paper mache.  I blew up some balloons, dipped string  in a water, glue and corn starch  mixture and wrapped the string around the balloon and let it dry.  I think the first solution was too watery though because this is what happened to  the first two balloons:

Balloon 1: Collapsed

_Balloon 2: So sad I wrapped up the string for another day

_I changed the solution for the following balloons but it still makes a difference if your balloon isn’t fully blown up.  So because balloon 3 was not fully blown up it didn’t pop instantly so it pulled the string inward as it slowly released air.

Balloon 3: a little decrepit but stable

_Balloons 4 and on: They actually looked right…yay!

_So here is what the final product looked like at the party.
