Compromise

_

So the other day, Will looked over at me and stated, “I know how one day I am going to teach our kids about compromise.”

To kid: “You know when I was growing up, I drank skim milk?”

Kid:  “But dad, we have never had skim milk in our house, we have only had 1%”

Will: “That’s because your mother grew up on 2%”

Hilarious!  Thankful that my husband compromised and made a tough transition to 1% so I don’t have to transition all the way to skim.

And no, this is not an announcement J

Ottoman Recovered: Project Day One

_  So a month or so before Will and I got married, I was in a thrift shop killing some time and I found a set of furniture that had once occupied some office lobby.  The store had the entire set of about 15 chairs so they were all marked down a ton.  I got two chairs and an ottoman for 15 bucks.  Since I’ve been wanting to learn to reupholster, the buy was a no brainer.

Well Will and I couldn't find an apartment until the week we got married so we were frantically trying to move our crap in and make it livable for him since he had to move out immediately from the place he was in.  This is on top of finishing last minute details for the wedding, so the chairs and ottoman made it to the back of our storage room that’s stacked to the ceiling with boxes.  Needless to say, they were forgotten.

The other day, I remembered this dejected little set and my goal…So I got to work on the ottoman…

_Sad isn’t it? (forgive the lighting...our apartment is a bit on the dark side)

And I enlisted my husband to help me so we would have some quality time together. (He’s really good at this type of stuff).

The goal for today was taking it apart.  We first had to take off the feet.  We then spent an entire movie of Pirates of the Caribbean taking out the 200+ staples that were in the ottoman (someone really wanted to be thorough...not to mention the type of staples they used were overkill as well)

_After that I cut off the cushioned top and ripped the stiches on the bottom half so that I could measure fabric for it later.

Then came removing the springs from the top.  We plan on converting it into a storage ottoman to keep blankets in it so instead of springs holding up the cushion, we will put a board and hinges on the cushion.  But that part is for another day.
