So excited spring is here because that means fun bright colors...perfect for a family photo shoot for an Easter card! This was my first shoot with 2 kids in this age group, so needless to say it was a little crazy but so much fun. The Kaldenbachs are our CP group leaders and there kids are our groups weekly source of entertainment. I'm so thankful to have gotten to know this sweet family a little more over the past year and I enjoyed taking their family photos! _I always like taking pictures of friends, and while I haven't known David or Leslie for that long, David, or as my husband calls him Jimbo, has been one of my husbands good friends for several years. They struggled through grad school together, saw each other through singleness, dating, engagement and now marriage. Jimbo and Leslie actually started dating two weeks less than a year from the day Will and I started dating. They got engaged two weeks less than a year from the day that Will and I got engaged. They will be getting married one week less than a year from when Will and I got married so its been fun for Will and I to watch them go through the dating process at the exact same pace that we did (dating, engaged and married in just under a year). This shoot was especially fun because they had gotten engaged just a week before so they had a floating on clouds look on their face. I was a fan of that because it made the shoot a breeze...they were not shy of being lovey-dovey for the camera. But anyways here is David and Leslie! _ For Valentine’s day, our cp group decided to hold a dinner for the widows at crosspoint. It was so much fun getting to know 2 great godly women within our congregation. They were sweet in joining us for dinner and sharing their lives with us. I was honored because Kelly asked Amber and I to decorate for the party. We went with a black, white, and pink theme, because I had a lot of black and white stuff from our wedding and Amber had a lot of pink stuff from a bridal shower (yay for not having to buy decorations) so we just made the printables to match. Amber made some awesome invitations (wish I had a picture of them). I made the food labels, napkin holders, and circle tags which you can download at the end of this post if you would like. For food we had everyone bring a side and dessert and the couple whose house we were at provided a ham. I volunteered to bring a dessert because I’m always looking for an excuse to make something sweet. For this I made the pioneer woman’s sugar cookies which are a wonderfully crisp melt-in-your-mouth kind of cookie. This is not moldable cookie dough so to get the cookie shape I made a thin bar in a casserole pan, and cut the cookie shape after they came out. _ I then decorated them with melted chocolate…I was going to decorate them with white chocolate as well but it never melted…it was kind of creepy. _So yummy! Though I wish my hand was steadier... For decorations I also decided to make these abstract string centerpieces. It works like paper mache. I blew up some balloons, dipped string in a water, glue and corn starch mixture and wrapped the string around the balloon and let it dry. I think the first solution was too watery though because this is what happened to the first two balloons: Balloon 1: Collapsed _Balloon 2: So sad I wrapped up the string for another day _I changed the solution for the following balloons but it still makes a difference if your balloon isn’t fully blown up. So because balloon 3 was not fully blown up it didn’t pop instantly so it pulled the string inward as it slowly released air. Balloon 3: a little decrepit but stable _Balloons 4 and on: They actually looked right…yay! _So here is what the final product looked like at the party. I love how my cookie tower turned out! This past Saturday I had an engagement session with the soon to be married, Amy and Blake. What was a little different about this shoot is Will joined me for the first time on a shoot and it was a lot of fun! Because of his natural curiosity, he has been asking me questions about photography since we started dating and it was great to have him there because he had a great set of eyes adding good ideas to the shoot. I love how supportive he is of me and what I'm interested in. The four of us had a great time on the farm in the beautiful weather and I'm looking forward to shooting at their upcoming wedding in July To see more from this photoshoot visit http://suzedesign.weebly.com/couples.html

So the other day, Will looked over at me and stated, “I know how one day I am going to teach our kids about compromise.” To kid: “You know when I was growing up, I drank skim milk?” Kid: “But dad, we have never had skim milk in our house, we have only had 1%” Will: “That’s because your mother grew up on 2%” Hilarious! Thankful that my husband compromised and made a tough transition to 1% so I don’t have to transition all the way to skim. And no, this is not an announcement J _ So a month or so before Will and I got married, I was in a thrift shop killing some time and I found a set of furniture that had once occupied some office lobby. The store had the entire set of about 15 chairs so they were all marked down a ton. I got two chairs and an ottoman for 15 bucks. Since I’ve been wanting to learn to reupholster, the buy was a no brainer. Well Will and I couldn't find an apartment until the week we got married so we were frantically trying to move our crap in and make it livable for him since he had to move out immediately from the place he was in. This is on top of finishing last minute details for the wedding, so the chairs and ottoman made it to the back of our storage room that’s stacked to the ceiling with boxes. Needless to say, they were forgotten. The other day, I remembered this dejected little set and my goal…So I got to work on the ottoman… _Sad isn’t it? (forgive the lighting...our apartment is a bit on the dark side) And I enlisted my husband to help me so we would have some quality time together. (He’s really good at this type of stuff). The goal for today was taking it apart. We first had to take off the feet. We then spent an entire movie of Pirates of the Caribbean taking out the 200+ staples that were in the ottoman (someone really wanted to be thorough...not to mention the type of staples they used were overkill as well) _After that I cut off the cushioned top and ripped the stiches on the bottom half so that I could measure fabric for it later.
Then came removing the springs from the top. We plan on converting it into a storage ottoman to keep blankets in it so instead of springs holding up the cushion, we will put a board and hinges on the cushion. But that part is for another day. _ For Christmas, William and I took a trip to Arizona to visit my family and it turned out to be a fun couple of weeks of firsts: The first time… 1. William flew on a plane _2. William went farther west than a state in the south 3. William met my grandparents on my dad’s side and get to know my extended family _4. My mom, William and I ever went to the Grand Canyon (which was beautiful so I posting a few pictures of this one)...We also hiked down part of the canyon on an ice packed trail in crocs...that was an adventure _5. William got to pick an orange straight off a tree and eat it….he was excited about this one 6. William and I spent Christmas and New Years together as a married couple _7. I got to show William where I grew up
8. I got to visit my parents alma mater 9. I saw a bowl game go in the hall of fame (great defense Clemson) 10. I got a pony tail pat down in airport security Ok, so more firsts for William than for me but I was glad to finally get to see the Grand Canyon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Rogers Congratulations to my little brother who graduated this past Monday from USC. I'm glad that William and I were able to come down to see the ceremony. Despite the rivalries we supported my brother :) My William said that this was the school trying to overcompensate My 75-300 mm lens held up pretty well considering the bad lighting and that we are clear on the other side of the stadium. Yay!
